Air Conditioning Tips in Extreme hot weather

August 7, 2024

Proper maintenance and operation of your ducted air conditioning system are crucial for ensuring its efficiency, longevity, and overall performance. Whether you're dealing with hot, humid days or simply performing routine checks, following a set of best practices can help prevent issues such as condensation, system overwork, and potential damage. This guide outlines the key steps to take when operating your system to ensure it runs smoothly and effectively throughout the year.

  • When running the system ensure all windows and doors to outside are shut as it can draw in the hot humid air and will cause condensation ( Water dripping ) Around the Supply air Outlets in the ceiling
  • On hot humid days when running the system useHigh fan speed in order to move as much air as possible (Avoid auto fan and low fan speed on these days) As this can cause water issues
  • On days predicted to be quiet hot turn the system on first thing in the morning, Shut the windows and doors and let the system maintain a nice even temperature all day without having to run at 120%to keep up with outside heat loads
  • Avoid placing any items on or around the outdoor unit which will restrict airflow and can cause damage to the system and affect systems performance
  •  If you notice any water coming from safety drain turn system off and contact Atkinsons Air immediately
  • Ensure you use your system at least every 3months to keep systems mechanical components lubricated and confirms system operations
  • Ducted Aircons require servicing 12 monthly with light usage, 6 Monthly if being used heavily in order to keep the filter clean, Drains cleaned and to ensure the systems optimum performance and avoid any unwanted moisture issues from system neglect

To maintain the optimal performance of your ducted air conditioning system, it's important to ensure all windows and doors are closed when running the system, especially on hot, humid days, to prevent condensation issues. High fan speeds should be used during extreme heat to avoid water-related problems. Starting the system early in the day during predicted heatwaves can help maintain a stable temperature without overworking the unit. Keep the outdoor unit free from obstructions to ensure proper airflow and prevent damage. If water is noticed coming from the safety drain, the system should be turned off immediately, and Atkinsons Air should be contacted. Regular usage and scheduled servicing—every 12 months for light use and every 6 months for heavy use—are essential for keeping the system's components in good working order and avoiding moisture-related issues.
